Road to the Olympics

Quayside Trampoline and Gymnastics Club is home to Team GB Olympian Laura Gallagher Cox.

Laura has been a member of the Club since she was 12 years old (over 20 years) and has worked with Quayside’s International Performance Coach, Sue Bramble, since she was 15 years old. Together they have achieved many successes, including 8 World and European Championship medals.

At the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo, Laura performed consistently well to qualify into the final in 3^rd place, securing Great Britain its first of two quota places for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Laura finished 6^th in the final and was also a contributing member of the women’s team which won a silver medal.   

Due to Covid, the 2020 Olympics were postponed until the summer of 2021. After an extended selection process including a year of training in isolation with two GB team-mates and two Olympic trials, Laura finally secured her individual qualification to represent Team GB at her first Olympic Games.

Covid restrictions meant the Games were held behind closed doors and Laura’s coach, family and friends were unable to travel with her. Despite the many challenges surrounding the Games,

Laura achieved her ambition of becoming an Olympian, a special title representing many years of hard work, success, failure, and resilience.        

At the end of January, Laura became a Mum as she and her husband welcomed their daughter Edie into the World. Laura has since returned to training and has been selected to represent Great Britain in the 2023 World Championships which are being held in Birmingham UK in November this year.

Laura is also amongst the athletes selected for the 2023/24 UK Sport x True Athlete Project, Powered by Purpose programme and recently became an ambassador for Inspired Schools.

Always eager to support her Community, Club, Sport and Country Laura is an absolutely amazing young woman who has never given in and never given up.
