We are proud to announce that Quayside Trampoline and Gymnastics Club is now equipped with a life-saving Automated External Defibrillator (AED)!
Today we were honoured to be visited by Mark King the founder of The Oliver King Foundation, who presented us with our AED and Dave, who provided us with the necessary training of how to proficiently use the machine.
With over 800 members, the majority of the those being children, within our club, it was very emotional listening to Mark telling us Oliver’s story.
Oliver King tragically lost his life aged 12 years on the 2nd March 2011 when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest due to a condition known as Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) whilst at school during a PE lesson.
This condition kills 12 young people under the age of 35 every single week in the UK.
Sadly there was no lifesaving defibrillator on hand, and for every minute that passed his chances of survival dropped significantly.
Oliver’s family and the foundation are absolutely determined to make sure no other family suffers a similar loss.
We are now able to ensure that, having received the vital training, any gymnast, parent, staff member or any member of the public in the local area has the best chance of survival if they suffer a cardiac arrest whilst in the vicinity of our Gym.
Many thanks to the 10 members of staff and 2 local community members who attended todays training course. Hopefully you now have the confidence and knowledge of how to use the defib in the event of an emergency.
Remember, sudden cardiac arrests can happen unexpectedly and affect anyone. With the AED readily available, we can provide immediate assistance to individuals in need, increasing their chances of survival and recovery!
